Overview
Masses can occur throughout the body from face to hand. These masses can be benign or malignant, soft tissue, or bony and localized at or extensive. Each mass is treated uniquely with some being capable of being drained in the office versus others requiring further imaging followed by surgery. In this section with present masses related to the upper extremity.

We use plastic and reconstructive surgery techniques to Ensure precise dissection to excise the mass in question and prevent leakage of the cells. The techniques we use an aesthetic surgery are often applied to the upper extremity to mitigate scarring and recurrence.

Patient 1
18-year-old female who presents with a left dorsal wrist mass that is growing in size causing pain. She is brought to the OR. It has been removed and comes back as a ganglion cyst. She does not have any recurrence. She was closed with plastic surgery techniques to minimize scarring.
Patient 2
40-year-old secretary presents with a right ring finger glomus tumor characterized by the triad of pinpoint hypersensitivity, paroxysmal pain and cold insensitivity. The patient had a MRI prior to embarking on surgery suggestive of a glomus tumor. In the operating room, under loupe magnification, the nail plate was removed and the glomus tumor was found coming from the nailbed. It was extracted and sent off to pathology. The nail plate was placed back. The patient has not had any recurrence in years.
Patient 3
66-year-old accountant who presents with a right dorsal wrist mass affecting tenderness. The mass was taken out and confirmed to be a lipoma. The patient had plastic surgery techniques to minimize scarring.
Patient 4
30-year-old female who is a lawyer presents with a tumor of the webspace of the right hand involving the median nerve. The mass is growing in size and causing sensory disturbances in the thumb and index finger. The mass was taken out under loupe magnification. It has not recurred the patient has no issues.
Patient 5
36-year-old female who works in healthcare industry presents with a right volar wrist mass consistent with a ganglion cyst. The patient is brought back to the operating room where the mass is carefully dissected off with magnification from the radial artery. The mass is taken out with a stock. The patient is closed with a plastic surgery technique to prevent scarring.
Patient 6
22-year-old premedical student who presents with a left long finger mass over the dorsal aspect of the middle phalanx. It is growing in size. She was taken to the operating room where the mass was removed and came back positive for a giant cell tumor. She has healed well without any recurrence.

Dr. Anup Patel
Dr. Anup Patel is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon trained in aesthetic, hand/upper extremity and reconstructive surgery. He completed his plastic and reconstructive surgery training at the premier Yale University followed by a hand and microsurgery fellowship at the New York University Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Mount Sinai Department of Orthopedics. Dr. Patel received his MD and MBA from the Yale University School of Medicine and Yale University School of Management, respectively. He graduated as the valedictorian of his class at the University of Florida majoring in economics, biochemistry and molecular genetics and valedictorian of his high-school class at Lake Highland.
